Can Google read the log files from the server?

Can Google read the log files which are not placed in the public area of the web root ?

If not where does Google and for instant also Netcraft get the data from

yes they can, it comes from the stats software installed on all hosted servers. Som of the other information is from Google toolbar as well the Alexa Toolbar
